It depends on what’s underneath. Sound plaster can usually take a skim coat. Plaster that has blown, cracked badly or come away needs hacking off and re-plastering, and tired ceilings are often best plasterboarded and skimmed. We’ll look at the job and tell you which, and why, before you decide.

Yes. We regularly skim over Artex and other textured ceilings to leave them flat and smooth, as on a recent job in Wickford. Skimming covers the old texture rather than scraping it off.

It depends on how thick the plaster is, the time of year and how well the room is ventilated. A skim coat can be dry in a few days, while walls that have been fully re-plastered take longer, often a week or more. It’s ready when it has turned an even, light colour with no dark patches. The first coat should be a thinned mist coat so the paint grips.

Yes. We render house and extension walls, long boundary walls, garden walls and outbuildings. Recent jobs include rendering over old pebbledash on an extension in Upminster and a full render system on a 15 metre wall in Loughton. Outside work is planned around the weather.

Yes. As well as plastering and rendering we do wall and floor tiling and micro cement, so a bathroom or feature wall can go from bare walls to finished with one firm.
